Plant a Row • Grow a Row
Grow Regina invites all gardeners to grow a crop of your favourite vegetables for donation to the Food Bank at harvest as part of the Plant a Row • Grow a Row (PAR•GAR) program.
Participation is simple! In addition to the vegetables that you currently grow for yourself, we encourage you to plant long lasting vegetables such as: carrots, potatoes, beets, onions and tomatoes to assist feeding the hungry in our community. Visit this link for ideas to excite your children about gardening: Plant a Row – Grow a Row with Junior!
At harvest, Grow Regina has coordinated pick up of produce from YARA-GRCG on a weekly basis with the final pickup day being the Annual Fall BBQ in September. Collection and distribution of the vegetable donations, cleaning the vegetables and measuring the weight of your PAR•GAR contribution will be facilitated by The Regina Food Bank staff. Participants may also take vegetables directly to The Regina Food Bank at 445 Winnipeg Street.
The Plant a Row • Grow a Row (PAR•GAR) program started in Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1986, initiated by Ron and Eunice O’Donovan. Since then, over 1.4 million pounds of fresh fruits and vegetables have been given to Winnipeg Harvest through the Grow a Row program. We would like to reproduce this success story in Regina!
This initiative to promote the PAR-GAR program is part of our commitment to the YARA sponsorship. We are pleased to announce that in 2009, The Regina Food Bank recorded just under 4,000 lbs of various vegetable produce donations.
The Regina Food Bank would like to dispel a myth that suggests produce has to be cleaned to be accepted. The truth is the Food Bank will accept all vegetables that are donated – including dirty vegetables. There are facilities available onsite to wash off the dirt prior to distribution.

This is an excellent initiative that I am excited to support!
