Volunteer Jobs for Saturday May 21st

    Hello Fellow Community Gardeners!

Isn’t it nice to be able to get back in the garden after a long cold winter?

My name is Yvette Crane and I recently joined the Grow Regina Board of Directors. One of my roles is to help recruit volunteers for the various jobs to be done around the garden. I hope to see many of you out this summer, both in your own gardens and helping out around the Community Garden as a whole.

So many people comment what a lovely Community garden we have on Queen Street, and of course as you already know that is all due to the hard work of volunteers! (Many thanks, by the way,  to those who came out this past Sunday to help with the Accessible Gardens!)

We will be meeting at the Community Garden on Saturday (May 21st) at 1pm.

If you can spare some time – even just an hour – we would love to have your help! Below are a list of jobs needing to be done – Cameron and Patti with the Garden Operations Committee will be there to direct us. The more the merrier and the quicker the jobs will get done and our lovely Community Garden will look better than ever. If you are going over anyway to work on your own garden, please plan to join in on our ‘work bee’ for as much or as little time as you can spare – even one quick job will help out! You will see us all around the gardens on Saturday, just join right in! Bring a friend … or two!! However much time you have will be very appreciated. Thanks all !!

    - Yvette

    6.) Move soil to A3 and B3

    and

Happy Long Weekend of Gardening everyone!

It was so nice to met many of you last Monday – what a great turn out of volunteers! And thanks to those of you who have emailed or phoned as well.

And we had two groups of teachers out on Wednesday doing community service — they did a fantastic job and many of the tasks we had wanted to do, did get done — Thank you to the hard-working teachers from Winston Knoll Collegiate and Regina Christian School !

      Hello!

Well – One more try, a few of us did meet today (Sunday) afternoon but it was pretty mucky out there …

Below are the jobs remaining to be done, so we are trying again to meet – tomorrow (Monday) at 1pm or so.

Please come by & lend a hand if you can spare some time — Or let me know by reply email if there is a particular job you are able to assist with. (thanks to those of you who already did just that – it is MUCH appreciated!)

See those of you who can make it tomorrow,

      - Yvette

      Jobs left to be done:

      1) Add top soil to the Accessible Garden boxes

      2) Finish moving rubber sheets to N-east side and cover for weeds. (Need to find some stone to weigh down) — a fun but messy job!

      3) Move patio blocks to Accessible Gardens; level with sand for wheelchair accessibility

      4) Roto-till A3 and B3, roto-till (or dig) grass out of front flower bed

      5) Move soil to A3 and B3

      6) Mowing sides, orchard area etc.

In addition, there are two “bigger” responsibilities we are looking for the right person to take over:

      1) Tend the front flower bed for the summer (Thanks to the great job that was done on this last year!)

      2) The Board is seeking a Finance Officer / Treasurer — Please email & let me know if you may be interested or know of someone …

      yc

wishing for sunny skies tomorrow !

      Hello again all,

Just wanted to let you know — If it is too wet to work in the garden tomorrow (Saturday), we will meet on Sunday at 1pm.

      See you soon,

      - Yvette
