Grow Regina is part of NDH Secret Gardens Tour in July!

    Hello Gardeners!

Well it has been a while since you have heard from me but many thanks to all of you who continue to help out with extra jobs around the garden – weather permitting!! We have volunteers looking after the front flower bed, mowing and more mowing, weeding around trees, and of course attending board meetings! Thanks to all – YOU know who you are!

We have an exciting announcement about an upcoming event Grown Regina is involved in. We have been invited to be included on the 14th annual “Secret Gardens Tour” which is held each Summer. This is put on by New Dance Horizons (“NDH”).

What does this mean? It means that people buying a ticket for the Secret Gardens Tour will have our Grow Regina Community Garden as one of the gardens they can visit! These visits will take place on Saturday July 16th and Sunday July 17th from 10am to 4pm. Needless to say we will all want to have our gardens and all the common areas looking as good as possible for those dates! So any extra attention you can pay to your weeding, tidying the pathways that border your garden, and any help in the common areas will be most appreciated!

In addition, we will be hosting an evening dance performance by new Dance Horizons Saturday July 16th, 7:30 to 10:30 pm. Please make sure and come out and enjoy this — Watch their website (and ours!) for more information at http://www.newdancehorizons.ca/

How else can I get involved? Save those cans!

Besides tidying and attending the performances, you can also help out in a couple of other ways. New Dance Horizons has asked if we can prepare as many ‘lanterns’ as possible to be lit during the evening performance – Won’t that look fantastic!  A very simple lantern you can make is just to take the top off your empty large tomato juice can, punch holes into the sides, and set a candle inside. If you can make one, or many, and drop these at the garden on Saturday July 16th, we will use these in and around the garden that evening, to light up pathways and gardens.

Finally, I am looking for a few volunteers ‘from the neighbourhood’ to deliver notices in mailboxes so those living in & around the garden (but not lucky enough to receive these newsy emails!  :-) will know what is going on and hopefully join in and attend the performance Saturday night. If you are able to help out, drop me an email back, and I will contact you the week of July 11th.

Thanks all — look forward to seeing you all soon, and for sure the weekend of July 16th and 17th!

Happy gardening – pray for sun sun sun !

    - Yvette
